Uk Cancer Bike Ride !

A Coast Ride Around Britain

This is a ride, that is in the planning stages and will take place a week before the "1st Bike Show" in September 2008.

Three riders will take part, two "Warriors" on their own bikes and Mr Alan Neal on a 125cc bike that is being loaned for the ride from Robinsons Of Rochdale.

The two "Warriors",
Mr M Parson (Trickey Mickey)
Mr P Parson (Wheelie Pete)
will be outriding and protecting Mr Neal.
The total mileage we expect to cover in the WEEK, is approx 3,000.
A typical day will be fifteen hours and hopefully 500+ miles covered !!

In front of the riders will be a VAN, driven by Mr Tony Mannion and relief driver Mr David Bradbury, this will tell all before it, that the riders are doing this for CHARITY and that is for CANCER, more to the point LEUKAEMIA, this being the  NUMBER ONE CANCER that attacks the younger generation.

This is the most common type of childhood cancer, representing about one third of all cancers in under fifteen year olds, we hope to make a difference, no matter how small to this disease !

We also hope to have full media coverage, in fact, we will be taking MAG (Motorcycle Action Group) up on their offer of exposure in ROAD, the "MAG" MAGAZINE before the ride starts.
BMF have also offered their support and we hope to be having talks in the very future for a write up in the RIDE magazine.

Sponsorship towards the cost of fuel for the ride and van is trying to be sourced, this is going to be the greatest cost of the ride, those taking part in the ride will be mostly sleeping in the van, this will keep down our costs.
The van will have two drivers so that a video camera can be used en-route and a digital camera for those more stationary memorable shots.
Watch this page for details and see how our sponsorship is going !!

During the course of the next couple of weeks a bank account will be set up, anybody will be able to call in and donate money to this account, we will also try to get it set so that donations can be sent via the internet, more details of this will be posted later...but ANY donations will be gratefully recieved at any time and by any means...

We thank you for all.........

           _______________________________________________
As the ride goes around the coast, we hope to collect a club patch from each clubs area that we pass through, these will then be displayed at the "1st Bike Show"

If we travel through your town, why not ride with us for a few miles.
The only thing we ask is that you ride safely and don't endanger the general public or our riders !!!

Now, if on this trip, any motorcycle dealers around the coast would like to donate something to the "1st Bike Show" that we can auction for charity, please let us know..
We will then try to make arrangements to call on them and collect it.
It really doesn't matter what the donation is, it could be a pair of gloves or it could be a HAYABUSA, CBR, R1, APRILLA!! (We don't mind at all)

The ride will start at Blackpool, from there it will travel North to John O'Groats, down the East Coast to Dover, along the South Coast to Lands End, then the leg HOME, if we get time, then a hop onto the ISLE OF ANGLESY will be included (Easy Peasy, eh, ok, who said that!!)

The ride will use only A & B roads, until we get to the River Thames, there it is proposed that we cross over it by using the QE 2 bridge and then at Bristol, using the M5/M4 to the Severn bridge and  that way into Wales.

The speed of the ride will be determined by local conditions (Speed limits and weather!) but we hope to average around 50mph to able to complete this ride in a week?

We have had our first £10:00 cash donation, we would like to thank John, a night trunk driver with Initial City Link who has hopefully started the ball rolling and many more will now be added to the fund.

We have set a figure to try and achieve of £100,000:00 will you help us in the quest to fight this disease?
        -------------------------------------------------------------------

We now have pictures of our set-up for the UK Cancer Round Britain Bike Ride.

The pictures were taken on the 3rd of May and show the five members that are taking part.
We would at this point like to our sponsors, Robinsons of Rochdale and Garic/Casey, who without their help, this ride would be very difficult, we will be contacting all the media sources in the very near future to give this ride country wide coverage......

The pictures above were taken by a club member, which hopefully will give you some idea of just what we are taking on this time, this has got to be the biggest venture for charity the "Warriors" have done so far and we need all the donations you are prepared to give to make it worth while.
This is not an End to End ride but a round the coast ride, which is much more difficult to to do now the motorways have taken away much of the older roads that we oldies (Me) new and loved so well !

Other pictures were taken by a photographer from the Rochdale Observer, which hopefully will appear in the issue for Saturday the 10th of May, (Now next weeks edition, could be Weds or Sat) again with a brief description of what we are doing.
(Now there's food for thought, maybe the Observer will sponsor some of our fuel ????)
