Safety First Whilst Riding In Numbers

Safety must be the bikers first priority, so with this in mind, here are just a few ideas.

Ride Order.
Every ride should have a RIDE LEADER and he / she, should know the route that is intended and know the route thoroughly and can lead the ride (No one should overtake the ride leader)
Back Marker, He / She, should have the same knowledge as the Lead Rider and will stay at the back to assist anyone who may have problems and to prevent riders from getting lost.
Corner Marshalls come into there own when traffic is busy and should wait at the exit from roundabouts or after traffic lights to be able guide the ride in the right direction and to look after maybe the slower riders in the group :ie, those with "L" plates (We all have to learn sometime)

It can be benificial and is recommended for the Lead and Back Rider to have contact with each other, either by PMR radio's or at least mobile phone.

While most of us know that it takes about one second to recognize and begin to react to a threat ahead of us, it usually takes from one to two seconds for riders to recognize and begin to react to a change of speed (increase) of the bike in front of them when they are riding in a group.

A couple of seconds doesn't sound much but while at two seconds a small group of bikes can usually manage quite well, at THREE seconds some problems can occour, this is particularly true if there are more than five or six bikes in a group.
The following may convince a lead rider to behave with more thought !

At 60 MPH your bike moves at 88 feet per second, assuming that you maintain a one second gap between bikes in the group then each bike is about 88 feet behind the next one, at 70 MPH the gaps would be about 103 feet !!

So maybe these thoughts will help.

HAVE FUN BUT PLEASE RIDE SAFELY !

28th June 2008

Below are a few pictures I managed to get of the 28th June Charity Ride to Blackpool.
The weather was kind to us and the ride seemed to go without any hitch, (Even though we may have helped the odd Horsebox to it's destination quicker !) arrival at Starrgate was "Just In Time" to meet up with the MAG rally.

There were bikes that the picures show at Whitworth, these were early shots taken in case I didn't get time later but when we arrived in Blackpool the carpark was crowded with good humoured bikers who had waited for us (Thanks people)

The Prom ride was superb and I hope everybody enjoyed it, we may get pictures later if anyone managed to get some ??

Back to the campsite and a well earned brew and hamburger, then time to catch up on gossip and meet everyone on site.

The "Warriors" would like to thank the extra marshall's on our trip to Blackpool, you did a great job fella's, we hope you enjoyed your day as well......

Beat The Winter Blues

What a good night and £800:00 raised for charity in to the bargain.

It was great to see some of the people of Whitworth supporting us as well, they have stopped me in the street afterwards and told me they really enjoyed the evening and asked "When is the next one?"

Thanks go out to The Safety Pins, Ice and Midblue who gave their time and talent for FREE, without them you would have had to watch me miming to records (Not a pretty sight!!)

What about the auction, well, it went down well and was something different, maybe we will try that again !

To all of the Mcc's that came along, thanks for your support, we do appreciate seeing you and enjoy your company.....

Make a note in your 2008 diary for next years night at the Riverside!! (November the 15th)

Keep your cursor on this page for more nights with Whitworth Warriors Mcc

As you can see from the above piece from the Rochdale Observer of the 13th December, the "Warriors" did try to help the cause of Millie O'Shea.

We did raise at the end of TWELVE HOURS a figure of £2,000:00 with hopefully a little more still to come in.

We will over the course of 2007 hopefully be able to help even more, this little girl needs our help and yours if you can support us !!

North-West-Bikers 9th December 2006

How many of you attended this event, it was said on the day that were 3000 bikes and trikes but this may be slightly overboard, suffice to say the convoy stretched an awful long way.
It was and is, a very enjoyable day, the weather was good to us and to the organiser's of the ride who do an amazing job putting the whole thing together.

If you go to www.northwestbikers.co.uk  when all the money is collected they will put the figure up for you to see, along with pictures from the day..
